Ogier, a member of the ‘offshore magic circle’ of legal and fiduciary service providers, has expands its international network with new offices in Bahrain and Tokyo. The firm says the expansion is part of its strategy to provide comprehensive multi-jurisdictional services through a significant presence in each of the world’s key financial centres and across all time zones.

‘In pursuit of our strategy, we felt it critically important to establish a strong presence in both the Middle East and Japanese markets so that we can provide the full range of Ogier’s services to our clients in their own time zone and in a manner that is responsive to local conditions and practices,’ says group chairman Jonathan White said.

Ogier Bahrain will be headed by Paul Perris, who has moved from the firm’s office in Jersey. A chartered secretary with 15 years’ experience in offshore professional services, Perris will spearhead the marketing of Ogier’s services in the Middle East. The establishment of the Bahrain office comes weeks after the firm launched a joint venture targeting Bahraini trusts with professional services firm Keypoint Consulting.

Ogier’s Tokyo will be headed by Skip Hashimoto, who was previously branch representative in Japan for Walkers SPV, part of another offshore magic circle member. Hashimoto, who is fluent in Japanese and English, has more than 12 years’ experience working in the Japanese market including six years as a vice-president in sales and marketing for Deutsche Bank’s global securities services business, and has extensive structured finance and investment funds expertise.

Ogier’s Tokyo office will provide Japanese clients with direct access to the firm’s network of offices and professional services in their own time zone. Japan-based clients will notably benefit from Ogier’s Hong Kong office, where legal professionals in the 20-strong team practise Cayman and BVI law.

‘Skip’s experience and in-depth knowledge of the Japanese market is a real asset,’ says Duncan Smith, managing partner of Ogier in Hong Kong. ‘Our new Tokyo office will allow us to provide even better support for our clients in Japan and offers tremendous development potential. We are now in the position of being able to continue to support our Japanese clients with our international experience, but with enhanced local expertise.’
