With an all-star cast of 20 speakers tackling the reform of the European financial supervision system to geopolitical risks and investment opportunities, the conference will provide a rich seam of information and commentary of investment practitioners, journalists, regulators and opinion formers to pool ideas and discuss solutions.

Leading the contributions will be Simon Johnson, Ronald A. Kurtz Professor of Entrepreneurship at MIT Sloan School of Management. Professor Johnson, former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund is also co-author of 13 Bankers: The Wall Street Takeover and the Next Financial Meltdown. Roger Bootle, managing director of Capital Economics, who recently called for a division of the euro in his latest column in the Daily Telegraph will also be speaking. Bootle argued for a northern and a southern euro because “this splitting of the euro into two would provide support for the weaker countries in that they would still be part of a currency grouping, their government debt would still be in their own currency (the euro) and they would avoid the severe legal and technical problems involved in creating a new currency.”

Other influential academics and practitioners speaking at the conference include:

•         Christian de Boissieu, Chairman, Conseil d’Analyse Economique (Council of Economic Analysis), on “EU at the Crossroads”
•         Charles Dumas, Chief Economist, Lombard Street Research, on “The American Phoenix: Why China and Europe Will Struggle after the Coming Slump”
•         Wolfgang Münchau, Co-Founder and Director of Eurointelligence Advisers, Associate Editor, Financial Times, on “Crisis and Consequences: The Way Forward for the Eurozone”
•         Stephen G. Cecchetti, Economic Adviser and Head of the Monetary and Economic Department, Bank for International Settlements, on “Reducing Systemic Risk: The Private Sector Must Be a Partner”
•         Nader Mousavizadeh, CEO, Oxford Analytica, on “Geopolitical Risks and Investment Opportunities: The Emergence of an Archipelago World”

Nitin Mehta, CFA, managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, CFA Institute, commented: “The CFA Institute European Investment Conference is a forum for leading practitioners to learn from the leading thinkers in our business. The conference is designed to provoke new thoughts, reveal insights, and encourage a deeper understanding of important issues. For many, that generates fresh investment ideas.  I would therefore encourage all serious investment professionals to consider attending.”
