International professional services firm Maitland has announced the appointment of former Walkers attorney David Pytches as a partner in its Cayman operation.

Headed by Sara Collins, Maitland Cayman has appointed three partners and two associates since opening last September.

With around ten years’ experience in the fields of trusts and succession law, and a reputation as one of the leading specialists on Cayman law in relation to these areas of practice, Pytches will be responsible for heading-up the non-contentious commercial and private trusts team for Maitland in Cayman.

He advises institutional trustees and private clients on all aspects of Cayman trusts law, including the establishment of complex trust structures for tax and estate planning purposes, private trust companies, the use of trusts in commercial transactions, the obligations of trustees, the rights of beneficiaries and the functions of protectors and enforcers. His practice also includes preparing wills and advising on cross border succession matters.

‘David brings a wealth of experience from working with institutional and private clients in the Cayman Islands and Jersey, and his talent will undoubtedly further strengthen the team,’ Collins says.

‘New developments, such as the introduction of new regulations facilitating the use of private trust companies, are resulting in increased interest in Cayman structures, and David’s expertise is perfectly suited to meet these demands.’

Maitland managing director Steve Georgala adds: ‘Cayman is an increasingly important and dynamic financial market that continues to be the leading offshore jurisdiction for hedge fund formation and administration, offshore private equity structures and private and commercial trusts, demonstrating the robustness of the industry even in the face of recent global economic stresses.

‘In addition, the reputation of the jurisdiction for high-quality dispute resolution continues to be enhanced – a key factor in supporting the platform of services offered. David is well placed to be able to deliver the insight and intelligence needed by clients in these uncertain times.’

Maitland provides services to both corporate and private clients, particularly family and owner managed businesses, devising and implementing strategies and solutions for the creation, preservation and management of its clients’ wealth and commercial success.
