John Kelleher has been appointed as chairman of law firm Carey Olsen, which has offices in Guernsey, Jersey and London.

Kelleher (pictured) will continue to be a partner and head of the Jersey litigation group and takes over the chairman’s role from Anthony Olsen, who retired from the firm in June this year.

The remainder of Carey Olsen’s management team will not change and Kelleher will be working closely with John Greenfield, the managing partner in Guernsey, and Alex Ohlsson, the managing partner in Jersey.

Ohlsson says: "John’s appointment is an indication of the high regard in which the partners hold him, and the significant contribution that he has made to the firm’s development."

Greenfield adds: "As a firm, we will continue to evolve and improve our service to clients, and the appointment of a new chairman is a great opportunity to make sure we are on the right track. John’s expertise will be vital in maintaining the service standards that we have set for ourselves."

Born and educated in Jersey, Kelleher is a recognised leader in Jersey contract law and Jersey customary law and is a prolific writer on these subjects. He has been a partner since 1995. He is also a founding member of the Jersey Law Review and has acted in many high profile cases, including in the Les Pas Holdings v States of Jersey and in a number of financial services disputes in which he has acted for the Jersey Financial Services Commission.
