Triple A Partners, an Asian and emerging markets alternative fund company in the seeding and distribution business, has strengthened its distribution capability with the appointment of representatives in Japan and Korea.

It has hired Frank Packard as its Japan representative and Henry ‘Hank’ Morris as its representative for Korea.

Paul Smith, chief executive of Triple A Partners, says: ‘Both Frank and Hank have extensive experience, and a long track record in their respective markets. Their appointment demonstrates Triple A Partners’ decision to have a presence in Japan and Korea, which are home to the biggest alternative exposures in the region.’

At a time when many hedge funds are being forced to cut back on their marketing budgets, Triple A Partners sees an opportunity to work with hedge fund groups to maximise their marketing potential and access investors in Japan and Korea. In addition to seeding opportunities, Triple A Partners will seek to collaborate with local securities companies to provide alternative asset management solutions.

Triple A Partners is regulated by authorities in Hong Kong, the US and the UK.

In addition to its existing business association with Enhanced Investment Products, Triple A Partners has also agreed to be the global distribution partner of Lanterne Strategic Investors. Lanterne Strategic Investors (formerly St Helen’s Capital) is an active hedge fund manager established in 2001 and based in Sydney. It specialises in the top 100 listed Australian companies, targeting absolute returns in all market conditions with low volatility.

Chief investment officer Michel Brookes says: ‘We are looking forward to working with Triple A Partners to build our global exposure for the Arran Fund which was launched in 2004 and has achieved annualised returns to date of 9.7 per cent since inception. We feel that partnering with such an experienced marketing team to support our business globally will allow us to focus on our core competence of portfolio management.’

In addition, Triple A Partners has formalised its arrangement with The Reech Aim Group to distribute three of their products in Asia. Reech Aim, based in London, was founded by Christophe Reech and his partners in 2006 as a next generation alternative investment management company to provide investors with more liquidity and higher scalability in hedge fund style investments. It specialises in derivatives investments, research and quantitative investing techniques in innovative asset classes.
