Schulte Roth & Zabel (SRZ) has added Steven Whittaker as a partner in the investment management group, resident in the firm's London office.
Whittaker joins SRZ from Simmons & Simmons.
Founded in New York in 1969, SRZ opened its London office in 2002. The UK practice added 50 new funds clients in the past year. The firm represents nearly half of the 100 largest hedge funds and more than 3,000 investment funds globally.
"I am very excited to join Schulte Roth & Zabel, which advises some of the most celebrated names in the European hedge fund industry. I look forward to contributing to the firm's growth," says Whittaker.
He will advise hedge fund managers, with particular focus on the structuring, formation and operation of funds. In addition, he will provide counsel to funds and managers on regulatory issues and transactional matters.
Christopher Hilditch, head of SRZ's London office, says: "Steven is an excellent addition to our team. He is one of the most respected individuals in the industry and we are delighted to have him join our investment management practice in London."
SRZ's investment management group consists of more than 80 lawyers focused exclusively on representing investment funds and their managers. The group provides advice on both UK and US law to a wide variety of funds and managers located in the UK, US, Continental Europe, The Middle East, Southern Africa, Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan) and Australia.
SRZ's London office recently expanded to include distressed investing and restructuring, with the addition of business reorganisation partners Peter JM Declercq and Sonya Van de Graaff. They have built a sizeable practice, which complements the existing funds, regulatory and derivatives coverage by the firm's UK team.
