The Fitzwilliam Growth Fund has been rated the top-performing fund of hedge funds for the first quarter of 2008 and over the 12 months and three years to the end of March, according to BNY Mellon Asset Servicing Performance & Risk Analytics.

‘The performance we have achieved has been driven by our underlying strategy which blends expertise, analysis and insight into a comprehensive investment package,’ says Shaun Port, chief investment officer at BDO Stoy Hayward Investment Management, the investment adviser to the fund.

‘The strategy is based on our ability to understand what fund managers are seeking to achieve and are actually delivering, and combine that market insight with our internal analysis, creating a product that has been recognised as the number one fund of hedge funds in the CAPS survey.

‘The Fitzwilliam Growth Fund has achieved sustainable growth in a time when others have been affected by dips in performance as the instability in the market truly tests the underlying investment strategies.

‘We continue to manage risk and identify opportunities – an approach which has helped the fund achieve its ranking. BDO Stoy Hayward Investment Management is expanding its asset management team, bringing in greater expertise and in-depth knowledge as part of our drive to be recognised as a leading force within the sector.’

The Fitzwilliam Growth Fund was launched in October 2003 to provide investors with access to a mix of underlying hedge funds through a strategy that sought to deliver long-term capital growth. It is one of a number of funds and hedge funds within Total Return Fund PCC, a Guernsey protected cell company, which also include the Fitzwilliam Commodity Plus Fund.

Adds Port: ‘To deliver a product that is recognised in the CAPS survey as no 1 year to date, over the past 12 months and preceding three years is a significant triumph for the fund and the team. We will continue to closely scrutinise risk in line with our due diligence procedures and seek to maintain the fund’s leading position by continuing to identify new opportunities.’

BDO Stoy Hayward Investment Management is a wealth management business that has its own in-house investment strategy group and advises on both regulated and unregulated funds, with more than 200 employees at offices throughout the UK. The firm is part of BDO Stoy Hayward, the UK member firm of BDO International, the world’s fifth largest accountancy network with more than 600 offices in 100 countries.
