GLG Partners is taking on two new fund managers to strengthen the teams on its Market Neutral and Long Only Convertible funds.

The announcement from GLG is the first from the London-based manager since its star trader Philippe Jabre went on leave on 9 January to reportedly marshal his defences over an FSA investigation into his trading activities. A decision from the FSA in the affair is imminent.

Purav Asher joins GLG Partners from Pendragon Capital Management where he was a Portfolio Manager and Alistair Ling joins from Deutsche Bank where he was a Research Analyst.

Asher and Ling will join as Fund Managers and will contribute to the firm’s Market Neutral fund and the Long Only Convertible fund.

Emmanuel Roman, partner and co-Chief Executive of GLG Partners, said: "We are delighted that Purav and Alistair have decided to join GLG Partners. Purav has an outstanding knowledge and experience in working with a variety Japanese-based products and Alistair has an impressive knowledge of the equity capital markets. In particular, these appointments mark our continual drive to bring further talent and experience to our Market Neutral and Convertible funds. We expect that both new hires will become meaningful contributors to the success of GLG Partners and its funds."

Asher brings experience from his role at Pendragon Capital Management, where he was Fund Manager for the Japanese portion of the firm’s Convertible and Multi Strategy fund. Prior to this, he was employed at Swiss Re Financial Products as Head of Japanese Equity and Equity linked products, and then at Deutsche Bank, where he was Head of Japanese Convertible Bond Trading.

Ling, having previously been a research analyst at Deutsche Bank, has an extensive knowledge of the equity capital markets.

Both Asher and Ling have previously worked alongside Steve Roth (formerly co-Head of Deutsche Bank’s convertible and capital structure arbitrage business), now co-manager of the Market Neutral Fund (alongside Pierre Lagrange) and manager of the Long Only Convertible fund.

Asher and Ling are also former colleagues of Michael O’Conner (formerly the Head of Deutsche Bank’s Convertible Research), who has recently joined Steve Roth on GLG’s Global Convertible fund.
