RMF, the core investment manager of Man Investments, has made a significant investment in a US equity long short fund managed by AM Investment Partners.

The AM Investment W Fund, Ltd, based in the Cayman Islands, was launched in early 2004 and has enjoyed positive returns since its inception. Its investment universe consists of several hundred small-, mid-, and large-cap US stocks. Fund manager Thomas Wynn and his team employ a range of proprietary tools, bottom-up fundamental approach and top-down analysis of global economic and industry trends to select investments in this broad universe.

“The idea of partnering with a known player such as AM Investment Partners is very attractive,” says Fred Siegrist, chief executive officer of RMF. “They already manage a successful convertible bond arbitrage and a volatility arbitrage fund. AM’s state-of-the-art infrastructure will allow for growth and permit the portfolio managers and analysts to concentrate on generating investment returns. Their proven track record and ability to attract other sophisticated, institutional investors made the deal very compelling for RMF. This transaction required creativity and is a reflection of the adaptability of our seeding model.”

Thomas Wynn, CFA, has over 20 years experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining AM Investment Partners, LLC, he served as a portfolio manager at MacKay Shields, where he managed USD 2.1 billion in institutional equity assets and he has also worked as a portfolio manager at Fiduciary Trust, where he managed over USD 500 million.

“What makes our returns unique is that we are not trend followers nor do we get caught up in the vogue hedge fund investment of the moment,” says Wynn. “Instead, we go back to the value-based analysis I have employed in my stock selection process my entire career, and it works”.

Mark Friedman, co-founder and Principal at AM Investment Partners, LLC adds: “AM has always been more quantitatively focused through our volatility based funds. Having an experienced and systematic stock selection process in-house has created alpha in all our strategies.”

Mark’s partner, Adam Stern, explains, “Over the years, we have always had a fantastic experience working with RMF. The opportunity to now build out our relationship further with the HFV group was exciting and the synergies go well beyond a simple investment.”
