Hedge fund veteran pens investing book

Richard Bookbinder, a hedge fund industry veteran and managing member of Bookbinder Capital Management, has co-written a book on hedge fund of funds investing.

Co-authored with hedge funds author Daniel Strachman, Fund of Funds Investing: A Roadmap to Portfolio Diversification, is written as a guide for institutional and high-net-worth investors interested in a clearer understanding of hedge fund of funds investing.

“We set out to develop a contemporary and reliable resource for investors, many of whom have expressed interest in hedge funds of funds, but don’t fully understand or appreciate the place these investment vehicles should occupy in their portfolios,” Bookbinder (pictured) says. “Our insights, based on decades of tried-and-true experience, will hopefully provide institutions and individuals with valuable and actionable information that may help navigate towards their performance goals.”

The book, published by John Wiley & Sons, walks readers from the point of entry through the fund of funds arena to the epilogue, which offers a look into renewable energy or green investing.

In the book, Strachman and Bookbinder explore issues like how a fund of funds might fit into a portfolio; how diversification through fund of funds investing can deliver specific risk/return profiles unattainable through single-manager investing; understanding risk and the importance of due diligence; factors that affect alpha generation in an uncorrelated portfolio; reasoning behind the management and incentive fee structure; and investment opportunities that did not exist a year ago, such as renewable energy and clean technology.
