Roy Zimmerhansl, ex-Global Head of Securities Lending Sales and Marketing at Deutsche Bank, is to head ICAP’s expansion into electronic securities lending.

ICAP plc (IAP.L), the world’s largest interdealer broker, has appointed Zimmerhansl as Head of Electronic Securities Lending from 1 March 2006. He will be based in London and reports to Garry Jones, CEO of ICAP Electronic Broking in Europe.

George Macdonald, Chief Executive, London & Europe for ICAP, said: ‘Roy brings to ICAP over 25 years experience in securities lending in both fixed income and equity, in Europe and North America. He was most recently Global Head of Sales and Marketing of Securities Lending at Deutsche Bank, having previously worked at Rabobank, Nomura and Chase Manhattan in similar roles.

‘Roy will spearhead ICAP’s entry in Electronic Securities Lending brokerage, and will be responsible for guiding the launch of a new electronic trading platform covering both the fixed income and equity markets. He will be working closely with our existing electronic platforms, utilising ICAP’s existing technology and e-sales and marketing experience across Europe.

‘The time is right for the transition towards electronic trading in this sector. The market is currently fragmented and highly labour intensive with manual trade reporting and poor straight through processing. We will be using our electronic platform to improve the internal efficiency of our customers in these markets by closer integration with their systems. ICAP has been discussing the evolution of the securities lending market with participants and is encouraged by support for this new initiative.’

Zimmerhansl was previously Global Head of Securities Lending Sales and Marketing at Deutsche Bank, having previously been Managing Director and Head of Global Collateral Management at Rabobank.

He has worked extensively with the Securities Lending community for many years and has significant experience in developing client focussed products .He is a frequent conference speaker and has been chairperson for several industry sponsored and professional conferences. Key conference panels he has appeared on as a panel leader or participant in past two years include ‘The Future of the Industry’, ‘Trends in Collateral Management’, ‘Alternative Lending Structures’, ‘Technology in Securities Finance’ and ‘Emerging Markets – Risk or Opportunity
