Parker Global Strategies, a fund of hedge funds manager and manager of managers based in Stamford, Connecticut, has continued its international expansion with the opening of representative offices in Tokyo and Sao Paulo.
Akira Adachi, formerly a representative director at Fortis Prime Fund Solutions, has been appointed chief representative for the firm’s new Tokyo office. He will be primarily involved in liaising with the client base in Japan and reports to president Michael Parker.
‘Japan has always been an important region for us and we continue to grow our activities there,’ says Virginia Parker, founder of Parker Global Strategies and wife of Michael Parker. ‘Akira’s presence on the ground will greatly add to our service.’
The firm began working with Japanese clients in 1997 and the following year became investment adviser to the first publicly offered fund of hedge funds through a structured product.
The firm’s emerging market expansion in South America will be headed from Sao Paulo with John Taylor joining as a managing director. Taylor, who has experience in investment banking, private equity and hedge fund manager research, will be responsible for identifying emerging managers throughout South America and boost the firm’s marketing and client services.
‘We are very bullish about the growing opportunities in emerging markets,’ Virginia Parker says. ‘With a footprint in Brazil, we have an edge in identifying promising investment opportunities and the managers who can execute them.’
Parker Global Strategies is also moving its back-office operations to its Denver office to streamline client reporting. Stacey, previously a portfolio account manager at Janus Capital, has joined as director of operations.
Redford reports to Faye Ryan, managing director of fund and client services and a member of the investment committee, who has been running the Denver office since May. The firm plans to add two analysts to the Denver operation in the coming weeks.
