New York state-based Atlas Capital Management has announced the establishment of a hedge fund advisory board and the appointment of the initial advisory board members, who will provide investment views to Atlas’s global and emerging markets hedge funds as well as strategic guidance to the firm.

‘Atlas Capital and its principals have been doing business and investing in emerging markets for almost two decades,’ says partner Harry Krensky, who co-founded the firm with Rogerio Chequer and David Chon. ‘The advisory board is an extension of the extensive global network we have developed over that time.’

Chequer says: ‘Atlas appointed these board members based on their successful long-term track record of disciplined investment success. We anticipate that their insights and contributions will be invaluable in the months and years ahead.’

Chon adds: ‘One of our core strategies is to link pools of investment capital from specific local emerging markets with investment opportunities in emerging markets globally. This advisory board is an important step in fulfilling that vision.’

The members of the advisory board are Luiz Augusto de O. Candiota, Ken deRegt, Peter Drittel, Gail D. Fosler, Richard D. Segal and Jim Walker.

Candiota is a founder and partner of Grupo Lacan, an asset management and corporate finance advisory company established in 2001, and deputy governor for monetary policy at the Central Bank of Brazil between 2003 and 2004. In addition to various government posts, he was previously a corporate finance senior manager at Unibanco, an executive director at Citibank and chief financial officer at textiles company Grupo Vicunha.

DeRegt is a senior advisor and managing director of Aetos Capital, providing oversight in areas of investment strategy, overall operations and risk management, and a board member at MSCI. Before joining Aetos Capital in 2003, he headed the fixed income, currencies and commodities businesses for Morgan Stanley and was a member of the firm’s management committee.

Drittel is a portfolio manager at Diamondback Capital Management, a global macro and emerging markets fund manager. Between 1998 and 2006, he was a partner of Tudor Investment and a member of the management committee, and was chief investment officer of the Tudor Emerging Markets Fund. Drittel previously was a portfolio manager at Kingdon Capital Management as portfolio manager. From 1984 to 1995, he was a senior managing director and co-head of emerging markets at Bear Stearns.

Fosler is executive vice president and chief economist of research organisation and conference organiser the Conference Board, leading its economics research programme and organisation outside the US. Segal, who founded Seavest in 1980 and is its president and chief executive, has more than 25 years of experience in commercial real estate and venture capital markets.

Walker is a managing director at Asianomics, an economic research firm based in Hong Kong, having previously Crédit Lyonnais subsidiary CLSA’s chief economist based in Hong Kong. Before joining CLSA in 1991, he was a research fellow at the Fraser of Allander Institute for Research on the Scottish Economy and then at Royal Bank of Scotland’s Edinburgh headquarters.

Based in White Plains, New York, Atlas Capital Management is an emerging markets investment firm with an office in Mexico and another scheduled to open in Singapore in the first quarter of this year. The firm offeres total return strategies to high net worth and institutional clients, managing global and emerging market multi-asset hedge funds and emerging markets private equity funds.
