International law firm Maples and Calder has relocated two of its partners, Mark Western and Stacey Overholt, to its Hong Kong office to strengthen its banking and finance groups.

Western (pictured) will focus on the Hong Kong office’s growing aircraft and asset financing practice as well as supporting its broader banking and capital markets practices. Western has relocated from the Cayman Islands office of Maples and Calder, which he joined in 2004. Before joining Maples and Calder, he was a partner at White & Case and before that at Weil Gotshal and Manges, where he undertook a secondment to GE Commercial Aviation Services.

Overholt will oversee the Hong Kong office’s structured finance and capital markets practice, including CLO/CDOs, securitisations and repackaging as well as general corporate law. Overholt has relocated to Hong Kong from Maples and Calder’s London office. She was made partner in December 2006. Before joining Maples and Calder Overholt was partner in charge of the Cayman Islands team at Mourants in London, and before that she worked for Dechert and Blake, Cassels & Graydon.

Christine Chang, a managing partner of the Hong Kong office of Maples and Calder, says: "We already have a highly successful and motivated finance team, but now the arrival of Mark and Stacey makes it unbeatable. Mark is a senior and respected figure in the field of aircraft finance; and Stacey has over ten years of finance experience and a major client following. In the short time since they’ve been here they have already made a significant impact, so we’re understandably very excited by their relocation."
