Cordium, a compliance consultancy to the asset management industry and new name for HedgeOp Compliance and The IMS Group, has made two key appointments.

Peter Guarino, vice president, will join Cordium’s Boston office, and Vivek Pingili, vice president, will join Cordium’s New York office, both reporting to managing director and partner, Patrick Shea.

Guarino will bring nearly 30 years’ experience as chief compliance officer (CCO) and in-house counsel to bear in a role that will see him spearhead Cordium’s mutual fund division, an area of growth for the consultancy. Most recently, he served as the CCO for Timberline Asset Management, part of a San Francisco based advisory firm. Prior to that, Guarino started up IM Compliance, providing independent fund CCO and adviser CCO support services. He has also served as general counsel for MiFund and as the US based CCO for the GT Global Funds.

“The regulatory and compliance landscape for asset management firms with mutual fund products is evolving rapidly, and there is an increasing demand for expert support to manage compliance in an efficient and positive way,” says Guarino. “It is a great opportunity to be able to blend my investment company knowledge into a firm of Cordium’s calibre and global reach. I look forward to contributing to the company’s development over the coming years.”

Pingili joins Cordium from Proskauer Rose, where he had been supporting private investment fund managers, including private equity, private real estate and venture capital fund managers on a range of regulatory compliance activities. He has specialised in compliance across the entire spectrum of the alternative investments industry throughout his decade-long career in in-house and law firm positions.

Pingili says: “Cordium has a reputation for excellent client delivery and a pragmatic, common sense approach coupled with extensive domestic and cross-border regulatory capabilities. At this time of increased regulation across the industry and the globe, all of these attributes are of paramount importance, and exactly what our clients are seeking.”

Bill Mulligan, chief executive, Cordium US, says: “Peter and Vivek are joining Cordium at a very exciting time for the firm. The recent announcement of our new name, bringing together The IMS Group and HedgeOp Compliance, coupled with our new office in Asia, signal our intent to grow. Key to that will be to attract accomplished individuals like Peter and Vivek, so we can continue to broaden and deepen the services we offer clients.”
