The Managed Funds Association has named Carl Kennedy, a member of the public finance department and tax group at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll in Washington, DC, as a member of the association’s four-strong legal team headed by vice president and senior legal counsel Stephanie Pries.

‘MFA welcomes Carl to its dedicated team of legal experts,’ says the association’s president John G. Gaine. ‘We are confident that the proficiency he brings to MFA will provide significant intellectual talent to key issues as the association advances its agenda to protect the interests of the global alternative investment industry on Capitol Hill and around the world.’

At Ballard Spahr Kennedy represented state and local government issuers, national investment banking firms and credit providers in connection with the issuance of tax-exempt bonds, and gained experience working with derivatives and derivatives documentation.

He previously worked on federal and state and local tax law issues as a tax associate with Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads in Philadelphia, and advised multinational companies on corporate reorganisation techniques to minimise their US federal income tax liabilities as a tax and legal consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Established in 1991 with headquarters in Washington and an office in New York, the MFA acts as a source of information for US policymakers and the media and as an advocate for sound business practices and industry growth. Its members include professionals in hedge funds, funds of funds and managed futures funds.
