Global Advisors, the New York-based commodity hedge fund manager, has taken on Matthew Simsic and Adam Hoffman to develop natural gas trading.

Matthew and Adam are based in Global Advisors’ New York office and, as portfolio managers, will be responsible for developing Global Advisors’ trading capabilities in the natural gas market. Both managers join Global Advisors’ front-office team, which is currently made up of five analysts and portfolio managers based in London and New York, trading energy and metals markets worldwide.

Before joining Global Advisors, Adam and Matthew were both managing partners in Zenith Capital & Trading, a commodities trading consulting firm, which they set up in 2003 to leverage their past successes in refining trading models and researching appropriate markets for a variety of clients.

Prior to setting up this venture, Adam Hoffman spent three years with PG&E National Energy Group in the US as a Senior Trader where he traded natural gas and crude oil derivatives. His experience also includes Merchant Energy Group of the Americas (US) where he managed natural gas price and volatility risk as well as Salomon Smith Barney (US) where he worked as a Broker Assistant.

Matthew Simsic has over nine years of experience in trading and managing complex portfolios of options and futures.

Before setting up Zenith Capital, Simsic was Head Option Trader at Exis Capital where he was responsible for listed options trading at a USD 800m long/short directional hedge fund. He also spent a year with Bear Stearns & Co in NY between 2000 and 2001 as Vice President on the Equity Derivatives trading desk. Between 1994 and 2000, Matthew worked as a Senior Option Trader with Hull Group LLC, a division of Goldman Sachs, successively in Chicago, Frankfurt and London.

Danny Masters, co-principal commented: "”We are delighted to have Adam and Matthew on board. They will work as a team to develop our natural gas trading capabilities. Global Advisors uses a diversified strategy that focuses uniquely on two commodity complexes: energy and metals. Our approach combines both technical and fundamental analysis as well as proprietary technology and in-the-trenches trading expertise. Over the years, Adam and Matthew have acquired the right combination of industry expertise and trading skills that is required in commodities trading especially in the natural gas market where we believe that opportunities will remain abundant in coming months.

Global Advisors LP is a specialist commodities hedge fund manager, focusing solely on energy and metals. Global Advisors provides investment management services to hedge funds, commodities companies and individual and institutional investors.

Global Advisors was founded in 1999 by Daniel Masters and Russell Newton who between them honed their skills at one of the world’s largest oil companies, Royal Dutch/Shell, developed innovative strategies for the commodities speculator, Phibro and built a profitable trading business at risk management innovator JP Morgan.

Global Advisors achieves diversification within the energy and metals sectors by scrutinising a number of different commodities within the energy and metals complex, together with intra-commodity and inter-commodity relationships.  Its investment philosophy combines “technical analysis”, investigating price data to identify trends and volatilities, with “Fundamental” analysis, which looks at the external influences on supply and demand such as economic, political or demographic factors.  A management discretion overlay is placed on top of the “techno-fundamental” analysis to complete the investment strategy.

Global Advisors currently has USD 375 million assets under management and has offices in London and New York and is a member of the NY Mercantile Exchange.
