Luxembourg Financial Group, a structured products boutique and asset manager, has appointed Gareth James as head of hedge fund solutions.

James was global head of hedge fund derivatives at Deutsche Bank, where he also ran the firm’s hedge fund managed account platform.

He has nearly 15 years of hedge fund industry experience.

LFG’s hedge fund solutions team offers a full service of structural solutions to hedge fund managers and their investors.

James says: “This is a very exciting time in the hedge funds business, with a lot of structural change taking place. LFG has a fantastic tool box of solutions, and its deep expertise in tax and regulatory structuring alongside a full suite of repackaging and management platforms allows us to assist managers better serve their clients. As an independent, we really can provide the best integrated solutions all the way from capital protection to liquidity and leverage.”

The move reunites James with Johan Groothaert (pictured), chief executive of LFG, who at Deutsche Bank pioneered the certificate re-wrap solution to make hedge funds accessible to German investors and launched one of the first managed account platforms.

Groothaert says: “With Gareth joining, LFG cements its role as a leading independent European hedge fund solutions provider. Gareth’s experience in the hedge fund structured products business is unique and we are already building on this.”

LFG has offices in Luxembourg, London and Stamford, Connecticut.
