Chapwood Capital LLC’s new alternative investment management firm is targeting institutional investors, high net worth individuals and family offices.

The firm’s chief executive officer is Craig Pollak, former managing director and head of new product development for FrontPoint Partners, LLC, a USD 6 billion hedge fund platform based in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Chapwood Capital’s mission is two-fold: to offer sophisticated investors a suite of institutional-calibre portfolio funds that provide access to a variety of style-based strategies; and to provide world-class investment professionals with a collaborative investment environment and operational infrastructure including technology, legal and compliance, accounting and reporting, risk oversight, product development, marketing, and client services.

“Chapwood Capital is building a platform of experienced portfolio managers, each representing a different alternative investment strategy,” said Pollak. “Separately, or together, each investment team will provide opportunities to add dimension and value to a client’s investment portfolio. Each team of managers is integrated through Chapwood’s infrastructure that has been designed to support their activities and encourage focused investment management.”

Pollak brings broad experience to Chapwood where he is responsible for building and managing the firm’s business and operational development. Prior to his three-year stint with FrontPoint Partners, he was a member of Morgan Stanley’s Private Wealth Management client strategy group and a securities law attorney at Cravath Swaine & Moore. He is a member of the economic advisory board of NASDAQ, acts an editor of the Journal of Alternative Investments, is a founding board member of the Mid-Atlantic Hedge Fund Association, and serves on the curriculum and exam committees of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association.

Geczy received his PhD in finance and economics from University of Chicago and his BA in economics from University of Pennsylvania.

Newmark joins Chapwood as chief financial officer/chief operating officer from Edge Asset Management where he was chief financial officer since 2003. He also served as chief financial officer of Petros Capital and as a fund accountant at Omega Advisors and Appaloosa Management, having also worked at Goldstein Golub Kessler LLP after earning a BS in accounting from Pennsylvania State University.

Owen joins Chapwood as principal, institutional sales and marketing. She was previously a vice president and senior member of the capital introduction team at CSFB, and prior to that she was a derivatives specialist in CSFB’s Structured Products Group in London, Hong Kong and New York. Earlier in her career, Owen, who received her Bachelor of Commerce in economics and finance from Curtin University; her Masters of Science in finance from the ISMA Business School at University of Reading; and her Masters of Arts in international affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, was an equity trader in her hometown Perth, Australia.

Sams, previously a managing director with Bear Stearns in the private client services division where her focus was on developing relationships and delivering asset management services to high net-worth investors, joins Chapwood as partner, sales and marketing. Prior to Bear Stearns, where she specialised in managing a quantitative based portfolio, she was an associate vice president with Morgan Stanley.
