BDT Invest is launching a Cayman-domiciled, Dublin-listed Asian ex-Japan long/short equity fund managed by partners Rob Brewis and Henry Thornton.

The new BDT Invest Asia Fund has been launched to take advantage of the current uncertain Asian investment outlook, which BDT believes ‘offers money-making opportunities on both the long and short books’. Richard Hindley, Marketing Director, said: ‘We will launch the Fund with a neutral net position, with a fairly equal number of longs and shorts. This is the main factor that will differentiate our Fund from many other funds in the Asia ex-Japan space’.

BDT Invest is an investment boutique with offices in London and Tokyo, specialising in equity investment within Asia, Japan and Emerging Markets. Total assets under management are USD 957 million in a variety of strategies from long-only relative return through to long/short absolute return.

Brewis and Thornton have extensive Asian equity experience and have worked together since 1989. The new fund will focus on taking between 50-100 positions, with a multi-cap approach, placing limits only on small cap exposure.

Seed capital is already in place and the initial launch period ends 28 April.
