Climex and APX-Endex win Dutch auction tender

The Dutch environmental exchange Climex and its clearer APX-Endex have won a tender issued by the Dutch Ministries of Housing, Spatial planning and the Environment and Economic Affairs to auction four million emission allowances over two auctions.

Climex and APX-Endex have been selected to execute these auctions.

Climex still has to wait for the written confirmation before it starts the preparations of the auction.

“We are extremely happy that Climex has been selected as the best suited exchange for the auctions,” says Sascha Bloemhoff, director of Climex. “Climex has always maintained accessibility for the compliance industry itself, with free membership, easy access and low trading fees and this combined with our previous government auction experience proved to be an important quality again for these government allocation auctions. For the Dutch government auctions participation for all buyers will even be free of charge.”

Bert den Ouden, chief executive of APX-Endex, which is in the process of taking over Climex’ shares from electricity grid operator TenneT, adds: “Winning this auction tender underpins the strength of the APX-Endex Climex combination, facilitates direct access for our existing members to the auctions of the Dutch Government and serves as a good start for the cooperation. Additionally, this fits very well with our policy to develop more of these activities in green energy products like the recently announced biomass exchange initiative.”

The Dutch allocation auctions will be held in the same format as the auctions during Phase III of the EU ETS starting 2013: single round, sealed bid and a single clearing price.

Companies interested in participating in the auctions need to be a member with Climex and fully collateralise their bids. There are no costs or obligations related when becoming a member.

The exact dates of both auctions are yet to be determined and will be published as soon as they are available. Well in advance of the first auction, a course will be organised in order to provide information on rules, processes and the procedures of the auctions. Climex members can directly participate in the auctions and will automatically receive all information.
