Atkins and Sants to discuss hedge fund regulation at Edhec round table

At the Hedge Fund Roundtable of Global Thought Leaders organised by French business school Edhec in London on November 20, Paul Atkins, a commissioner at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, and Hector Sants, chief executive of the UK’s Financial Services Authority, will join leading figures from the alternative investment industry to look at hedge fund regulation, and discuss the lessons that can be drawn from the sub-prime crisis.

Atkins will be making a keynote address on the subject of Regulation Risk – Are Regulators Attempts to Protect Investors Increasing Moral Hazard and Adverse Selection? He will be joined for the panel discussion by session chairman Serge Ledermann, head of investment at Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch, Noël Amenc, director of the Edhec Risk and Asset Management Research Centre, Stanley Fink, deputy chairman of Man Group, John Fraser, chairman and chief executive of UBS Global Asset Management, David Harding, founder and managing director of Winton Capital Management, and Roy Leighton, chairman of the UK’s Financial Services Practitioner Panel.

Sants’s keynote speech will be on the topic of Hedge Funds and Systemic Risk – Are Hedge Funds a Threat to the Global Financial System? The plenary session will be moderated by Martin Baccardax of CNBC Europe.

Accompanying Sants to discuss the lessons from the recent market turmoil will be Sir John Gieve, deputy governor in charge of financial stability at the Bank of England, Jean-René Giraud, director of development and research associate for Edhec Risk and Asset Management Research, Omar Kodmani, senior executive officer at Permal Investment Management Services, Kevin Pakenham, senior executive officer at Putnam Lovell NBF, and Blaine Tomlinson, founder and chairman of FRM Group.

The Edhec Business School, founded in l906, has campuses in Lille, Nice, and Paris, and is recognised as a centre of excellence for asset management and alternative investment research. Several of its professors are regarded as international experts in the fields of asset management, fixed income securities, alternative investments and risk management.

The Edhec Risk and Asset Management Research Centre aims to produce research that meets the most stringent academic standards and to help corporate use of this research. In partnership with large financial institutions, the research centre brings together 35 researchers and implements six industry-sponsored programmes focusing on asset allocation and risk management in the traditional and alternative investment universes.
