Cains, an offshore law firm based in the Isle of Man, has confirmed its intention to open an Asia-Pacific regional office in Singapore by July next year. Cains says the new office will provide the opportunity to advise existing clients from within the region, while providing a physical base and presence for international business development.

The office will be headed by Mike Edwards, a director of Cains based currently in the Isle of Man, who will be joined by a team of experienced corporate lawyers.

Cains is already established in Asia as an offshore legal adviser with expertise in asset finance transactions and capital markets work. The firm has advised Asian companies and investment funds on flotations on numerous exchanges, including the main board of the Singapore Stock Exchange.

Cains’ managing director Andrew Corlett says: ‘We see the opening of an office in Asia as the logical next step in the evolution of the firm. Our work with clients in Asia, particularly in India, has seen the business case for us to have an on-the-ground presence gather strength and momentum.’

Says Edwards: ‘Singapore is establishing itself as a gateway to emerging global markets including India and China. We intend to position our business at the heart of a region which has already established itself as a global economic superpower.’
