Leading British Virgin Islands law firm Harney Westwood & Riegels has announced the appointment of Tim Clipstone, Kissock Christopher Laing, Ross Munro and Chris Young as partners in the firm, which also has offices in London, Hong Kong and Anguilla.

Clipstone, who joined the firm’s investment funds practice in 2004 from Olswang, has developed a strong reputation for his work with offshore funds. Notably he has recently led a number of high value restructurings of hedge funds to deal with liquidity and tax issues arising out of the economic and legislative environment.

Munro, also of the firm’s investment funds team, joined the firm from Hammonds in 2005, and acts for many of the firm’s largest fund clients. ‘The Harneys investment funds team already has unrivalled strength in depth, but I look forward to building on that strong platform to generate further growth,’ he says.

Young, who joined the firm’s litigation department in 2005 after a spell in the Cayman Islands, has established himself as a leading litigation and contentious insolvency lawyer in the BVI. He says: ‘The litigation and insolvency market in the BVI has been expanding rapidly and Harneys enjoys a high profile.’

Clipstone, Munro and Young are all currently based in the firm’s BVI office, while Laing heads the firm’s Anguilla office, which he joined in 2006 as head of legal and corporate affairs, having previously practised both in the BVI and Anguilla. The new appointments bring the number of partners at Harneys to 14.
