London-based Arch Financial Products has appointed five new partners, Richard Rhodes, Guy Haward, Gianpaolo Potsios, Alex Hartley and Simon King, as it expands into the Middle East and Asia and continues to develop its product offering.

Rhodes, who becomes a partner and Arch’s chief financial officer, has joined the firm following several years establishing successful sustainable opportunities businesses in south-east Asia. He was previously chief financial officer of Merrill Lynch’s international banking division after holding various regional financial controller roles and earlier was an accountant at BDO.

Haward, previously global head of technology for Merrill Lynch’s foreign exchange and rates derivatives group, becomes Arch’s as head of corporate and technology development, having acquired 17 years of investment banking technology experience in various derivatives technology positions.

Potsios joins Arch as a partner with a remit to develop global placement and syndication capabilities for the group. He was most recently a partner at corporate advisory group Europa Partners working with European financial institutions on corporate finance issues.

Up to 2006, he spent more than 20 years with Citigroup in various positions including managing director in the global corporate department of the investment bank and vice-president in the corporate finance group. Potsios is a member of the supervisory board of merchant bank International Investments Group and chairman of Rubicon Capital Partners.

Hartley, who becomes a partner and compliance officer, was most recently a partner at ODL Securities, where he was responsible for compliance and anti-money laundering. He has also worked for stockbrokers, fund managers and merchant banks including Christows, West Merchant Bank and IFX Markets.

King becomes a partner and head of real estate following more than 19 years in commercial property markets in Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. He previously managed a GBP200m Jersey-based commercial property investment firm that he founded in 2004, having held senior positions at surveying firms Jones Lang LaSalle and Knight Frank as well as accountants Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young.

Arch Group is provides specialist asset management and structured investment products and services to retail and institutional investors. The group was established in 2002 and now has more than 60 investment partners and staff, managing investments totalling more than GBP1bn in alternative asset classes such as private equity and private finance and covering areas such as sustainable and environmental themes, natural resources, energy, real estate and regions such as China and Africa.
