EasyETF launches carbon tracker on Euronext Paris

EasyETF has launched the first carbon tracker based on a market index, EasyETF Low Carbon 100 Europe, on the NYSE Euronext market in Paris.

The new tracker is an addition to the environment range, which already consists of EasyETF FTSE ET50 Environment, EasyETF S-Box BNP Paribas Global Water and EasyETF BNP Paribas Global Waste.

EasyETF Low Carbon 100 Europe uses as its underlying the Low Carbon 100 Europe index, created by NYSE Euronext, with the support of a group of international experts, and in partnership with several non-governmental organisations.

The fund and index reflect the performance of the 100 largest European companies emitting the lowest levels of carbon dioxide in the sectors or sub-sectors to which they belong.

Compared with a benchmark group consisting of the 300 largest European companies, the carbon dioxide emissions by companies making up the Low Carbon 100 Europe index are on average 42% lower.

Danièle Tohmé-Adet, co-manager of the EasyETF platform at BNP Paribas Asset Management, says: 'We have chosen the Low Carbon 100 Europe index for its methodological transparency and its financial representativeness, which makes it possible to reconcile responsible and sustainable investment and the search for financial performance.

Eric Borremans, head of responsible and sustainable investments at BNP Paribas Asset Management, adds: 'In 2006, BNP Paribas Asset Management became one of the first signatories of the Responsible Investing Principles and occupies the vice-chairmanship of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change. Today, BNP Paribas Asset Management has decided to support the initiative of the three non-governmental organisations: GoodPlanet.org, Agrisud and WWF, which were behind the decision to create the Low Carbon 100 Europe index, by offering, via EasyETF, the ability to invest in this index.'
