Cordium, a provider of governance, risk and compliance services, has appointed Michael Corcione as managing director of its cybersecurity and data protection consulting services.

Corcione joins from PwC where he was a director in the cybersecurity, privacy, and financial crimes unit with a focus on asset management and alternative investment firms. He has over 20 years of experience working for alternative investment, financial services technology integrators, and consulting firms.

At Cordium, Corcione will help asset management and alternative investment firms to identify and manage potential cyber risks and threats as well as providing clients with regulatory and compliance support.

Corcione says: “Asset management and alternative investment firms need to be aware of the very real threat of a cyber-attack, especially because they hold so much sensitive client data, and have access to money and security movements. As quickly as technology evolves, so too does the threat of attack. Regulators are increasing pressure on firms to ensure they acknowledge, monitor, and reduce their cyber risk, by adopting, testing and enforcing information security policies and procedures.”

Bill Mulligan, Cordium’s group president and CEO of Cordium US and Software, says: “Michael’s appointment underlines the importance of cybersecurity to our clients and Cordium’s effort to ensure our clients are in the best place possible to succeed in such a fast changing area. Cybersecurity, information technology, and data protection is a natural expansion to the compliance consulting services Cordium has been delivering to clients for over 15 years. Michael’s skillset and experience is exactly in line with our ambitions to grow in this area of practice.”
