Hong Kong-based alternative asset management company OP Investment Management Ltd (OPIM), has partnered with LEAD Investment Fund Management Company (Lead) to launch the LEAD Absolute Return Fund SP (of Sunrise SPC), a Cayman domiciled fund for professional and institutional investors.

While the fund’s objective is to achieve long term absolute returns, the investment manager will deploy a global macro strategy focusing on developed markets. Managed by Senior Portfolio Manager, Andrew Lam, the portfolio will consist of large cap equities, listed options, fixed income securities, commodities, and futures.

Lam, feels that Asian investors, both high net worth and institutional alike, are now moving away from big branded funds, and becoming more sophisticated, “While high returns without any regard to risk or volatility was the popular objective three to five years ago, investors are now taking diversification seriously but in a far more controlled approach”.

Alvin Fan (pictured), CEO of OPIM, says: “With the emergence of Asian financial institutions, especially from China, where regional specialists are not uncommon; there is an ever growing demand for managers with global portfolio skills. Andrew’s long history in the global markets and deep network with regional clients cannot be replicated overnight.”

Lam has over 22 years of investment and advisory experience, having specialised in global equities, bonds, long-only and alternative discretionary mandates, along with listed and OTC options.

Prior to managing the fund, Lam served as a Managing Director the private wealth management division at Pictet & Cie (Europe) SA. He provided investment advisory products and services across different classes covering all major financial markets. Prior to this, Lam worked for Morgan Stanley, Citi Private Bank, Citigroup Global Markets (aka Salomon Smith Barney) and HSBC Asset Management in various investment positions.

Lam received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto.
