Coquest Advisors appoints Director of Educational Research

Mark Shore has joined Coquest Advisors as Director of Educational Research. Shore will be responsible for developing educational materials, workshops and webinars as well as aid in client outreach to help investors, wealth advisors and other industry participants learn about managed futures.

As a futures industry ambassador, he’ll also work to increase visibility of the Coquest Advisors brand. Shore is an adjunct professor at DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and has a multi-decade background in research and trading in the derivatives business.

“Mark brings gravitas to this position having lived and breathed derivatives research and trading for 30 years,” says Coquest Managing Director G Maxwell Eagye. “His ability to teach and train will be invaluable to our clients, institutional investors, and financial advisors. As we roll out our continuing education program, we’ll provide varied tools in multiple formats for the financial business. It’s gratifying to help support current educational efforts of the managed futures industry in a way that can reach beyond core investors to wealth managers and financial advisors.”

Shore began his career in the futures business with EF Hutton, working on the Chicago Board of Trade bond floor where he witnessed first hand the 1987 stock market crash. He used that experience in his submission paper to the University of Chicago, where he received his MBA with a concentration on Finance, Behavioural Science and Econometrics. He joined Morgan Stanley/VK Capital Inc. in New York in 1997 as senior research analyst, and rose to become chief operating officer and principal for the USD300 million internal CTA. In 2007 he joined Octane Research, a USD1 billion alternative investment firm, as head of risk. In 2008 he formed his own company that focuses on derivatives research, Shore Capital Research.

“I’ll bring to the position my research and educational expertise and ability to explain the products, asset allocation, and importance of risk management,” Shore says. “My background – 30 years in the futures business – is a nice fit with what Coquest Advisors wants to do. I’ve developed training modules during my career, and teach what are probably the country’s only accredited college classes in managed futures at DePaul University, where I’m currently a doctoral candidate.”

Shore hopes to use Coquest Advisors as a platform to educate more people on the importance of long-term investing and diversification using alternatives, especially as inflation and volatility begin to percolate.
