Perkins Coie has appointed Elizabeth Kemery Sipes as a partner in the firm’s Denver office where she will focus on representing private investment funds.

Sipes advises the sponsors of private investment funds, including private equity, venture capital funds, real estate private equity and hedge funds, on matters involving structuring onshore and offshore funds, upper tier management and general partner entities, reorganisations, side letter negotiations and investment adviser registrations and exemptions.

“Elizabeth’s considerable experience providing investment counsel to clients with sophisticated global financial interests strengthens Perkins Coie’s role as recognised trusted advisors for clients with specialised investment needs,” says Michael Glaser, Co-Chair of Perkins Coie’s Corporate Practice. “Elizabeth’s background strongly complements our private equity, venture capital and investment management practices and her entrepreneurial spirit blends well with the Perkins Coie team.”

Sipes also has extensive experience performing due diligence, negotiating partnership agreements and side letters for the private investments of institutional investors, including endowments, universities and pensions. She spent time as in-house counsel for an asset management company supporting its institutional distribution division and private investment funds. Sipes earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois and her BA, cum laude, from Truman State University. Before joining Perkins Coie, she was a partner at Bryan Cave.

“Elizabeth is a well-respected strategic advisor in the Colorado market and well-known among our attorneys who had worked with her when she was in-house counsel at an asset management company,” says Sonny Allison, Perkins Coie’s Denver Office Managing Partner. “Elizabeth has nearly twenty years of experience advising clients on substantive investment fund matters. Her exceptional reputation is an asset to the firm and we are delighted to welcome her to Perkins Coie.”
