PEGAS Spot progresses by 28 per cent year-on-year boosted by increased volumes on all hubs

PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform operated by Powernext, registered a total volume of 156.0 TWh in May 2018 which represented a year-to-year growth of 11 per cent (May 2017: 140.7 TWh).

The Dutch delivery zone TTF remained the dominant hub on PEGAS with an overall volume of 89.6 TWh, followed by the German NCG and Gaspool hubs with a total of 30.1 TWh. The Austrian CEGH VTP market area had a strong showing with 11.1 TWh, including 4.8 TWh on the derivatives segment, making it again the most liquid hub behind the TTF on the curve.
 
Spot trading volumes in May amounted to 80.5 TWh, up 28 per cent over the previous year (62.9 TWh). The TTF market area registered 27.5 TWh, an increase of 51 per cent (May 2017: 18.2 TWh). The German delivery zones NCG and Gaspool grew by 19 per cent and reached 24.9 TWh (May 2017: 20.9 TWh). Trading of quality-specific contracts reached 5.7 TWh. The French PEG Nord and TRS achieved a volume of 13.5 TWh, which is an increase of 9 per cent (May 2017: 12.5 TWh). CEGH VTP volume reached 6.3 TWh, up 17 per cent over the previous year (May 2017: 5.4 TWh). The Belgian markets ZTP and ZEE rose to 5.1 TWh, an increase of 28 per cent (May 2017: 4.0 TWh). The Danish market ETF registered 1.9 TWh which represents almost twice the previous year’s volume (May 2017: 1.0 TWh). Finally, the Czech market area CZ VTP traded 241 GWh. 


 
Geographical spread transactions reached 6.6 TWh, while the German and French locational and hourly products totalled 778 GWh. 


 
In May, PEGAS derivatives reached 75.5 TWh , driven once again by the TTF futures market with 62.1 TWh (May 2017: 66.5 TWh). In Germany, the NCG and GASPOOL delivery areas traded 5.2 TWh (May 2017: 6.4 TWh). The trading volume on the CEGH VTP delivery zone came close to breaking another monthly record with 4.8 TWh (May 2017: 1.9 TWh). In France, the PEG Nord and TRS market areas reached 966 GWh (May 2017: 1.9 TWh). The Italian PSV hubs doubled the previous year’s volume with 2.1 TWh (May 2017: 904 GWh). Trading on the CZ VTP hub amounted to 351 GWh.


 
The volume of geographical spread transactions accounted for 3.0 TWh and time spread transactions amounted to 5.9 TWh.
