Specialist fixed income manager, BlueBay Asset Management (BlueBay), has appointed Gautam Kalani to the newly created role of Emerging Market FX Strategist.

Based in London, Dr Kalani will join the five-strong EM strategist team, reporting to Senior Sovereign Strategists Timothy Ash and Graham Stock, and will be responsible for analysing and shaping global FX positioning across BlueBay’s emerging markets investment strategies. His previous experience as an economist and FX strategist augments the team’s existing technical and fundamental expertise.

Polina Kurdyavko (pictured), Head of Emerging Markets at BlueBay, says: “Gautam’s appointment is a key new addition to BlueBay’s local markets strategy. As market volatility rises, identifying idiosyncratic risks and opportunities becomes even more instrumental to generating performance in this asset class. While we have a well-established team focused on emerging markets local currency investing, we believe this continues to present a potential growth area for investors. Gautam’s appointment highlights our ongoing commitment to the asset class and in building BlueBay’s emerging markets capabilities.”

Kalani was most recently a Strategist in the Emerging Markets Research team at Deutsche Bank. He holds a BA in Economics and Maths from Amherst College and an MSc and a PHD in Economics from Oxford University.

BlueBay’s 35-strong emerging market debt team manages over USD11 billion in dedicated client assets across EM sovereign, credit and FX strategies.
