PEGAS records its best monthly volume of 2018 supported by significant all-around increases

PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform operated by Powernext, achieved its highest monthly volume of 2018 in October with 191.5 TWh traded during the month.

A strong spot segment supported this increase, as well as a flurry of activities on TRS Spot ahead of the French zone merger leading to a final record with 8.2 TWh (previous record: 5.7 TWh in March 2018). The Options segment also registered a volume best since its launch with 2.4 TWh.
 
Spot trading volumes in October reached 106.3 TWh, up 41 per cent over the previous year (75.7 TWh). The Dutch TTF market saw an increase of 56 per cent with 36.3 TWh traded over the month (October 2017: 23.3 TWh). The German delivery zones NCG and Gaspool closed October with 32.2 which represented a growth of 25 per cent compared to the previous period (October 2017: 25.8 TWh). Trading of quality-specific contracts reached 7.7 TWh.
 
With the volume record on TRS, the French delivery zones (PEG Nord and TRS) reached a final volume of 18.9 TWh (up 41 per cent from last year’s volume of 13.4 TWh) before the launch of a unified trading zone on 1st November. The Austrian CEGH VTP volume registered 8.0 TWh, up 25 per cent (October 2017: 6.4 TWh). The Belgian markets ZTP and ZEE volumes traded 7.4 TWh, up 81 per cent (October 2017: 4.1 TWh), including a monthly record on ZTP with 6.8 TWh (previous record: 6.6 TWh in August 2018). The Danish market ETF registered 2.0 TWh, which was an increase of 19 per cent (October 2017: 1.6 TWh). Finally, the Czech market area CZ VTP traded 374.1 GWh. 


 
Geographical spread transactions reached 8.8 TWh, while the German and French locational and hourly products totalled 1.1 TWh.


In October, PEGAS derivatives reached 82.8 TWh (October 2017: 111.7 TWh). The TTF market saw a total volume of 68.1 TWh (October 2017: 96.1 TWh), while the trading volumes in the NCG and GASPOOL delivery areas reached 5.8 TWh (October 2017: 7.6 TWh). Once again, CEGH VTP more than doubled last year’s volume with 4.6 TWh (October 2017: 2.0 TWh). The PEG market area reached 1.4 TWh (October 2017: 1.3 TWh). The Italian PSV hub registered 1.3 TWh (October 2017: 4.3 TWh). The ZTP and ZEE hubs totalled 968.2 GWh doubling last year’s volume (October 2017: 316.8 GWh). Finally, the CZ VTP hub registered a new monthly trading record with 496.2 GWh (previous record: 459.3 GWh in December 2017).


 
The volume of geographical spread transactions accounted for 3.6 TWh and time spread transactions amounted to 2.5 TWh. Finally, 18.7 TWh were traded on PEGAS’ OTC platforms.
