Stone Harbor makes Chief Developed Market Economist appointment

Stone Harbor Investment Partners (Stone Harbor), a manager of credit strategies in emerging markets, global high yield, and multi-sector, has appointed Seamus Smyth as Chief Developed Market Economist.

Based in the firm’s New York office, Smyth will report to report to Peter Wilby, Managing Partner and Co-CIO and Jim Craige, Co-CIO and Head of Emerging Markets.

“We are excited to welcome Seamus to Stone Harbor, where he will be responsible for developing Stone Harbor’s outlook on advanced economies and will contribute to the firm’s Investment Policy discussions,” says Wilby. “Seamus’ considerable expertise and intellectual rigour will be invaluable to us in helping shape our investment decisions and in delivering value to our clients,” added Craige.

“Stone Harbor is one of the leading specialist fixed income investors and I am very much looking forward to contributing to the quality and depth of knowledge that exists within the firm,” says Smyth.

Previously, Smyth served eight years as a Managing Director and Senior Economist for Caxton Associates where he was responsible for assessing the market implications of his economic views for the firm’s portfolio managers across rates, FX, equities, credit, and commodities. Prior to joining Caxton in 2009, Smyth spent just over three years at Goldman Sachs as part of its US economics team and, while in graduate school, spent time at the US Treasury and Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

Smyth holds a PdD in Economics from Harvard University and a MSc in Statistics from Stanford University. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Economics with honours and distinction and a BS in Mathematical and Computational Sciences with distinction.
