The Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI) has established a new regional committee focusing on the SBAI’s work in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA Region). Elena Manola-Bonthond, CIO of CERN Pension Fund, has been appointed Chairman and Doc Horn, Head of Total Return Equities, Pictet Asset Management, Deputy Chairman of the Committee.

Manola-Bonthond says: “I am honoured to chair the SBAI’s EMEA Committee to help further the important work and growing adoption of the Alternative Investment Standards in this region. As a global investor, having agreed standards facilitates our due diligence and raises the quality of manager practices for the benefit of all market participants. I’m looking forward to working with the Committee and the Board of Trustees to contribute to the SBAI’s ongoing success.”

The 11-member strong committee will be generally equal split across asset owners and investors:

• Angela Borrett, Partner, European ODD, Albourne Partners
• Patrick Bronger, Expert Portfolio Manager, APG Asset Management
• Erik Eidolf, CEO, Nordkinn Asset Management
• Stuart Fiertz, Co-Founder, Cheyne Capital Management (UK) LLP; Trustee, SBAI
• Fiona Frick, Group CEO, Unigestion
• Doc Horn, Head of Total Return Equities, Pictet Asset Management (Committee Deputy Chairman)
• Kristina Jacobsen, Head of External Managers, Ferd AS
• Roy Kuo, Team Head, Alternative Strategies, Church Commissioners for England
• Elena Manola-Bonthond, CIO, CERN Pension Fund (Committee Chairman)
• Kai Rimpi, Head of Hedge Funds, Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company
• Martin Tornqvist, Chief Compliance Officer, Capital Fund Management

Thomas Deinet, Executive Director of the SBAI, says: “What drives much of our success as a global standard-setter is the collaboration of investors and managers on our platform. We are extremely pleased to have such a strong leadership representation on the EMEA committee and excited about the impact we will make.”

Managers from Europe (including the UK) account for 35 per cent of the SBAI’s Signatories and institutional investors account for 32 per cent of the SBAI’s Investor Chapter Members. The SBAI’s EMEA Committee is the third regional committee following the creation of its Asia Pacific and North American Committees in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Mario Therrien, Chairman of the SBAI says: “We are excited about the launch of the EMEA Committee and are grateful for the support of the industry leaders who agreed to serve as its members. While the SBAI’s Alternative Investment Standards are universal in nature, it is important that we have industry leaders to address unique topics and facilitate the dialogue between regional asset owners, managers and regulators.”
