Calderwood, a Cayman Islands boutique fund governance firm, has further expanded its senior team with the appointment of Laura McGrath as an independent director. McGrath is an accomplished board chairperson, attorney, and business executive. She possesses broad experience across operational, legal and compliance matters, also bringing business management expertise to board leadership positions.
McGrath has 23 years of experience in the financial services industry – with over 20 years specifically in hedge and private equity fund services. She has served as a director on Cayman Islands hedge fund boards for over 15 years, and has previously been a board director on UCITS funds registered with the Central Bank of Ireland.
As an independent director with Calderwood, McGrath will take positions on the boards of a range of investment funds, advising on fund governance and regulatory compliance issues. In addition to being an independent director with Calderwood, McGrath serves as the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for a US-based hedge fund manager where she has built the infrastructure, systems, and processes needed to effectively manage business complexities.

McGrath is also the President and Principal of a FINRA-member broker dealer and for the 15 years prior, she held regulatory Chief Compliance Officer roles, with demonstrated expertise of the regulatory environment for both US and Cayman Islands investment funds. Since launching in 2016, Calderwood has developed over 300 investment manager relationships and the firm also operates an office in Asia, to provide time sensitive directorship and compliance services in that region. Calderwood recently celebrated its fifth anniversary and has assembled a team of eight highly experienced independent directors. The firm also offers a broad range of services, including full turnkey solutions for tax information exchange and anti money laundering/know your client compliance.
