Dan James has worked on the sell-side. He’s worked on the buy-side. And now, he’s morphing into the man to know for a job in hedge funds.

Dan James, a former Goldman Sachs managing director and head of synthetics and quant sales between 2014 and 2018, has opened a new hedge fund search boutique, Monroe Partners with veteran headhunter Christian Robbins, according to a report by eFinancialCareers.

James who has spent the past four years in business development at hedge fund Millennium Management, scouting and recruiting portfolio management staff, decided to move into headhunting to capitalise on the competition for talent between big multi-strategy hedge funds.

Some big-name funds including Point72 and Balyasny operate their own in-house portfolio manager development programmes, but many others still use banks as a source of top trading talent and Monroe Partners will focus on helping them find potential portfolio managers.
