Bill Ackman, the CEO and founder of New York-based hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management, is backing Common Denominator, a charity focused on improving numeracy and mathematics skills among children, with a guest appearance at the charity’s upcoming Power of One Gala fundraising event.

As the highlight of Common Denominator’s second annual gala, which is due to take place in Midtown Manhattan on 7 June, Ackman will interview journalist and author William D Cohan, who has penned several books including, The Last Tycoons, winner of the 2007 FT Goldman Sachs Book of the Year Award, and, more recently, Power Failure, covering the rise and fall of iconic American company General Electric.

Funds raised from the event will help Common Denominator extend and deepen its initiative of arranging for volunteer ‘tutors’, who all work at large corporations in Manhattan, to teach mathematics to local school kids during their lunch hours. The charity, which has been operating since 2002, now has a particular focus on meeting the post-pandemic educational needs of Manhattan’s lowest income communities.

To attend the event or register interest in becoming a tutor, contact Marianne Scordel, Bougeville Consulting at [email protected]
