AQR’s multi-strategy Apex fund up 15.6% YTD as firm sees strong September returns

AQR Capital Management, the $165bn hedge fund led by Cliff Asness, reported strong gains across several of its strategies in Q3, including its flagship Apex Strategy which is now up 15.6% YTD, according to a report by Reuters citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter.

The multi-strategy fund rose 4.0% in September, bringing year-to-date returns to 15.6% to the end of September. The AQR Delphi Long-Short Equity Strategy returned 2.9% over the month and is now up 14.3% for the year, while the Managed Futures Full Volatility Strategy gained 9.3% in September, lifting YTD performance to 17.7%.

AQR’s Helix Strategy, which targets trends in niche and harder-to-access markets, delivered a 6.3% return in September, taking year-to-date performance to 13%. These results have outperformed broader systematic trend-following hedge fund indices, which have declined over 2% on average this year, according to Societe Generale.
