Multi-manager hedge fund Balyasny Asset Management has appointed Simon Moss as its new Head of Asia Equity Capital Markets (ECM), strengthening its capital markets team ahead of what is expected to be another active period for Asian equity issuance, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Moss joins the firm in Hong Kong after more than a decade at BNP Paribas, where he most recently served as Head of ECM Syndicate. During his 12-year tenure at the French bank, he was responsible for overseeing equity capital market transactions across the region.
Before joining BNP Paribas, Moss held ECM roles at RBC in Hong Kong and began his investment banking career in Australia with ABN Amro and RBS.
He succeeds Adrian Lee, who joined Balyasny from Credit Suisse, where he had served as Co-Head of ECM Syndicate. Lee departed the hedge fund earlier this year.
The appointment comes as Asia’s equity capital markets continue to attract investor attention following a resurgence in initial public offerings. Hong Kong was one of the world’s busiest listing venues in 2025, helping drive more than $30 billion of IPO proceeds across the region. Activity has remained robust in 2026, supported by a pipeline of large listings and follow-on share offerings.
As competition for allocations in high-profile transactions intensifies, experienced ECM professionals have become valuable hires for hedge funds seeking to capitalise on primary market opportunities across Asia.
