Balyasny Asset Management has tapped Joon Park, co-founder of shuttered stock-trading hedge fund Kodai Capital Management, as Chief Operating Officer of its long-short equities division, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The report cites an internal memo seen by Bloomberg as revealing that Park will also join Balyasny’s equities investment committee and report directly to founder Dmitry Balyasny, in a move that underscores the firm’s continued push to expand its senior leadership ranks across equity strategies.
A spokesperson for Balyasny declined to comment.
The hire follows Kodai’s decision to return outside capital, including funds from initial backer Millennium Management. Kodai, founded in 2020 by Park and fellow Citadel alum Neville Shah, started as a Millennium-exclusive managed account before launching to external investors in 2023. As of February, the Chicago-based fund oversaw approximately $690m in non-Millennium assets, per investor documents.
