Balyasny Asset Management has recruited Trung Nguyen a portfolio manager at Brevan Howard as it continues to scale its presence in Asia, underscoring the multi-strategy firm’s growing commitment to the region, according to a report by eFinancial Careers
Nguyen previously spent around 18 months at Brevan Howard and nearly six years as a quantitative researcher at Cubist, the systematic arm of Point72.
Earlier in his career, Nguyen worked at Capital Fund Management (CFM) in Paris, where he spent more than seven years developing quantitative strategies. He joined CFM after completing a PhD at France’s Grandes Écoles system and was among a relatively small group of portfolio managers at the firm focusing on directional quant approaches.
The hire comes as Balyasny continues to expand its Asian footprint, with the region becoming an increasingly important contributor to overall performance. Revenue from Asia has reportedly increased by more than 80% over the past two years, reflecting both strong trading conditions and ongoing team expansion.
The firm’s Singapore office is one of its largest regional hubs, housing a significant portion of its approximately 130 investment professionals across Asia, alongside its Hong Kong base. While both cities host multiple portfolio managers, the firm has also been selectively adding senior talent across strategies, including systematic and discretionary approaches.
