CI Capital to launch Egypt’s first equity hedge fund

Related Topics

CI Capital Asset Management is preparing to launch what is expected to be Egypt’s first equity-focused hedge fund, targeting EGP250m in assets during its first year of trading, according to a report by EnterpriseAM.

The move comes as a newly introduced regulatory framework opens the country’s investment industry to alternative fund strategies.

The report cites managing director Amr Abol Enein as revealing that the fund is expected to launch before the end of 2026, with CI Capital anticipating demand from both retail and institutional investors for products offering greater flexibility than traditional mutual funds.

The planned launch follows a major regulatory change by Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), which opened the door to hedge funds last month.

The new framework gives Egyptian hedge funds access to a wider range of investment and trading tools than conventional mutual funds, including derivatives and margin trading. Short selling is also expected to become available once the necessary market infrastructure is operational.

For CI Capital, the changes create an opportunity to establish an early position in what could become a new segment of Egypt’s asset-management industry.

The EGP250m first-year target is modest compared with established global hedge fund markets, but the launch could provide a template for other local managers as regulators seek to broaden the country’s investment-product offering.
