Citadel, the multi-strategy hedge fund led by Ken Griffin, has appointed Rafa Lopez Espinosa as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of its global equities business. Lopez Espinosa joins Citadel after nearly a decade at Point72, according to a report by Financial News.
Lopez Espinosa’s extensive experience includes roles such as Director of Strategy and Business Development at Point72 before rising to Chief Operating Officer of the firm’s international operations. He also led the firm’s efforts to expand into Poland, serving as the Head of Poland from 2020 until early 2025.
With nearly two decades of experience in the finance industry, Lopez Espinosa began his career at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he held several senior roles, including Project Leader and Principal. His deep expertise in strategy and operations is expected to support Citadel’s global equities business as it continues to grow and navigate volatile market conditions.
