Citadel lures another Man Group ArcticDB engineer

Related Topics

Citadel has hired William Dealtry, a key contributor to ArcticDB, the low-latency time series database developed in-house by Man Group, marking the second high-profile engineering defection from the London hedge fund’s prized technology unit, according to eFinancial Careers.

Dealtry joins Citadel’s London office as a Senior Software Engineer, after a seven-year tenure at Man Group where he helped build ArcticDB—an open – source alternative to legacy databases like KDB. Before Man Group, Dealtry was an executive director at Goldman Sachs.

Dealtry follows Shashank Khare, another early ArcticDB developer, who joined Citadel’s treasury engineering team in 2023. Dealtry, however, is expected to focus on data scalability, reflecting Citadel’s growing push into ultra-high-performance data infrastructure.

ArcticDB, released publicly in 2023, was designed to be cost-efficient and Python-native, providing a compelling alternative to more complex and expensive platforms. Its open-source launch signalled Man Group’s ambition to shape the future of market data tooling.
