AQR Capital Management, an alternative asset manager with $109bn in assets across hedge funds, long-only and liquid alternatives, has parted company with Principal and Global Co-Head of its macro strategies group Yao Hua Ooi, according to a report by Pensions & Investments.

Ooi, who joined AQR back in 2004 straight from university, led the research and portfolio management teams focused on the firm’s macro, multi-strategy and managed futures products.

The report cites a spokesperson for AQR in confirming that Ooi has left to pursue “a new opportunity”, while Ooi has confirmed separately that he is set to start a new role at another hedge fund firm next year.

Jordan Brooks, a Principal at AQR, remains Co-Head of the macro strategies group, along with fellow Principal John J Huss, who has been appointed to replace Ooi.
