European digital asset manager CoinShares is to acquire London-based Bastion Asset Management, a crypto-focused alternative investment manager regulated by the UK FCA in a move aimed at strengthening its actively managed capabilities.
The deal, which is pending regulatory approval, will see Bastion, known for its quantitative alpha strategies and systematic digital asset investing, fully integrated into CoinShares, bringing its team, strategies, and operational expertise. Key personnel, including Bastion CEO Philip Scott and CIO Fred Desobry, will join CoinShares to support growth and expansion initiatives.
The acquisition complements CoinShares’ strategy of combining passive ETPs with sophisticated active strategies, aiming to offer institutional investors a full-spectrum digital asset solution. It also accelerates CoinShares’ US market expansion, leveraging its 1940 Act status to launch actively managed funds for American investors.
