Rob Citrone’s macro hedge fund Discovery Capital posted its best monthly performance since November 2024, gaining 7.5% in January, according to a a report by Financial News London citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter.
The $3.5bn firm benefited from winning positions across Latin America and Asia, including Venezuelan bonds, Mexican equities, and Asian stocks.
The fund continues a multi-year streak of strong performance, having returned 48% in 2023, 52% in 2024, and almost 36% in 2025, substantially outperforming the average 7% gain for macro hedge funds last year, according to HFR. Discovery Capital’s strong 2024 results helped Citrone generate an estimated $730m, outpacing peers such as Bill Ackman and Paul Singer.
