Arrowpoint Investment Partners, a new Asia-focused hedge fund headed by former Millennium Management Asia Co-CEO Jonathan Xiong, has secured backing from Blackstone ahead of what is expected to be one of the region’s biggest launches of the year.
The report cites people with knowledge of the matter as revealing that Arrowpoint, which is expected to launch with around $1bn in assets, is also in talks with other institutional investors as well as potential early backers.
The multi-strategy firm, which is targeting a Q3 launch, will operate from offices in Singapore and Hong Kong trading across equity, fixed-income and commodity markets using fundamental and computer-driven strategies, according to one Bloomberg source.
Xiong will serve as Chief Investment Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Arrowpoint, while Andrew Freyre-Sanders, the former Head of Trading Analytics at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority will be the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. Joo Lee, Chief Technology Officer at digital wealth platform Endowus, will fill the same role at Arrowpoint.
