The effect of the recession on private equity has been under much scrutiny lately. Its full impact is still unclear and it will take a while to draw the final conclusion. As part of the emerging markets, SEE private equity industry has been put on the map and investors have shown increased interest.
There has been a significant upward movement in Bulgarian and Turkish private equity and investments by foreign and local investors has increased over the later part of this decade. The same goes for most countries in SEE: Hungary, Greece, Romania, Croatia and others. This growth came as a result of the improved business climate and the harmonization with EU regulations. The financial crisis has established a unique investment environment in the region.
